California Youth Transitions to Adulthood Study (CalYOUTH): Early Findings from the Child Welfare Worker Survey
To understand how California’s extension of foster care through age 21 might benefit youth in care, the CalYOUTH Study team surveyed 235 child welfare workers throughout the state. Findings presented in this report outline how these workers perceive extended foster care, including the availability and coordination of services across providers, youth attitudes toward extended care, and other important domains. Results outline how these caseworkers view the youth in their care, ranging from their need for services and motivation to stay or leave care to their satisfaction with support from the court system and collaboration with other providers.
