Findings on the Relationship between Extended Foster Care and Youth’s Outcomes at Age 23
Building on prior research showing that at age 21, extended foster care had links to improved educational success and employment, financial security, social support, and other benefits, this research followed up with a sample of foster youth aged 23 or older regarding outcomes of extended foster care. This research confirmed that associations between extended care and positive outcomes persisted after these young adults had been out of the foster care system for at least two years, with no evidence that extended foster care had any negative effects.
